The day had finally arrived! I was sending the three amigos to school! I've always said when I was home with babies during their little years, it felt like I was never gonna get the first one to school. And now I was facing the first day of all three at the same school!
I knew Hayden was ready. She was born ready. I was ready, too, and was so proud when she got out of the car at drop-off and turned around with a wave and big smile and marched her little self right into the building. Hot Sauce doesn't lack in confidence.
I drove home and walked into the bathroom where Jason was getting ready for work. He turned to me, wrapped me in his arms, and asked, "So how ARE you?"
Cue the waterworks. I had been FINE! Things were going splendidly! My last kindergartner walked into school and had zero tears! Why was I crying??? It was his embrace and the question that had far more implications than I realized. In that split second I realized we are moving into a new season. It was a phase I was planning to embrace wholeheartedly, yet the sensation of time slipping through my fingers was palpable. Never again would I have a little one at home with me. Never again would I drop a little one at childcare at the gym. Never again would I grocery shop during the day with a little one. (Can I get an AMEN on this last one??)
I am proud to say my sadness was short-lived, and we've jumped wholeheartedly into our new season. It's busy, it's a little crazy sometimes, but it's a season I am LOVING. My three are independent, strong, and fun. I'm proud to be their momma. And the grocery store has never been more peaceful.
