Foiled by strep

Alas, my trip to see Miley's baby has been cancelled. Emerson came down with strep throat last night, and I couldn't risk the possibility that I was carrying the virus and bring it to Peoria with me. Plus, I could envision me leaving and my other two coming down with it. Daddy is very capable, but still... I think it's best if I stay home.

I'm fighting depression today! I haven't seen my sister and her family since June, and I was dying to see Saige. On the bright side, they will be here for Thanksgiving, so it's T minus 5 weeks or so.

My big girl is on the couch, watching Paw Patrol, sucking on a frozen Sucrets tube. She is surprisingly upbeat and fun to be around this morning now that her fever is gone. We've got craft time and reading practice planned today before we get the littles from preschool.

On an unrelated note, J's office is coming along beautifully! My friend Leslie is the bomb. As soon as it's all put together, I'll take pictures and post. His clients have been giving wonderful feedback about how it's one of the most beautifully decorated offices they've been in. And that's what we were going for...something totally different than the average office...warm and cozy and full of style.

Grammy came over yesterday and made a fun 'veggie man' for the kids after school. They loved it! And no, she hasn't lost her marbles...yesterday was Crazy Day at her school, so she was all decked out in various holiday garb and a coat hanger in her hair. You should've seen the looks we got in traffic!

My newest niece!

Auntie FAIL for not getting these on my blog sooner. A little over two weeks ago, my sis Miley had her third baby, a little girl named Saige Marie. She was 8 lbs, 3 ozs, just like her cousins Addison and Hayden!

She is such a beauty!

I can't enlarge the images or they become too distorted. But you can CLEARLY see how gorgeous she is! I see a lot of her momma in her!

And guess who is hopping on a plane to IL next week to meet her??? I cannot wait to hold that sweet love in my arms and kiss those cheeks!

A Boy in Red

Taken this morning:

Taken at 10 months old:

The minute I took the picture of him in his red hood this morning, my mind instantly flashed back to the picture above of him in the OU hat. It was a wonderfully snowy day, and he looked so darn cute snuggled up in the backseat that I couldn't resist snapping a picture.

This whole growing up thing is so overrated. I miss this chubby baby. But through his big-boy, Pre-K exterior, I still see the chubby baby. Perhaps I always will.

"...and she loved a little boy very, very much -- even more than she loved herself." -Shel Silverstein in The Giving Tree.

September Picture Post

Backyard fun while Big Sis is at school.

Celebrating with Mr. H at his first birthday!

Em with her friend Kate.

Handsome birthday boy!

Grandpa made a new step stool for the powder bath. Suddenly the kids LOVE washing their hands!

Last popsicles of the summer.

Hangin' with Daisycakes.

Chasing "Disco," the resident neighborhood cat that appears in our backyard every now and then.

Jax loves nothing more than to spot a mushroom growing in the yard, grab his plastic sword from inside, and chop that bad boy down. Hilarious.

Drawing with Daddy.

Em's class on a field trip to Whole Foods to talk about healthy eating.

The last few tomatoes of the year!

All-School Picnic

*Some of these photos are from the school's website. I do NOT have this great of a camera.

Last Friday the football players came to the Primary School for a pep rally. Em is 2nd in line.

This is our kindergartner walking onto the football field last Friday night, getting ready to perform with the other Primary School (K-3rd) before the game.

And here's a little snippet of the patriotic medley they performed. My apologies for the blurriness. I had my camcorder zoomed as far as possible from where we were sitting in the stands.

Will someone please tell her to tryyyy and show a little enthusiasm?

Here they are (K-3) taking their final bow after their performance.

And getting to be the spirit line for the football players. She was SO excited about this!

Walking hand-in-hand with her brother. I really need to get him some spirit wear. I can't believe he'll be there next year.

Jax had a blast playing carnival games.

Hot Sauce had a blast making faces with her mother.

My four favorite people.

We had a great night! I think it's going to be a fun tradition that we look forward to every year.
