Jax puts it in reverse... then takes a bath

Jax is officially crawling. Backwards. For about a week now, he's been half-scooting, half-crawling his way directly in the opposite direction of where he'd like to go. When he scoots his little feet into a table or a wall and can't back up anymore, he simply rolls over onto his back and claps his hands.

I stuck him in the sink for a bath a few weeks back then immediately realized it was a dumb idea. I forgot how much he likes splashing! My countertops, cabinet doors, and about 4 feet of kitchen tile were absolutely soaked. Oh well... he seemed to enjoy himself!

Pictures, Mexican & Bargains

Jason finished his work week off today by meeting us downtown with our wonderful photographer, Kelly Stocksen, for Jax's 9-month photo session. She took us to these awesome abandoned buildings near 5th & Elgin... I can't WAIT to see how they turned out! She has an incredibly artistic eye. Emerson thought it was so much fun getting to run around near the old buildings. She didn't really know what she was doing or where she was going, but she acted like she owned the place. I love the reckless abandon and imagination she has right now. It's really fun to watch.

We left downtown and ate dinner at Monterrey's. Jason has always loved their cheese nachos there, and I'm a huge fan of their spinach enchiladas with veggies. Emerson pretty much only gets a chicken soft taco no matter which Mexican restaurant we frequent, so she loved hers as usual. She always dumps the contents of the taco onto her plate and eats the tortilla first. Yes! Just like her Momma... gotta love those carbs.

Following dinner, Jason took the babes home and I stopped by my favorite consignment store for a name brand pre-sale. I got there about 15 minutes before the store opened, and there was already a line outside of about 15 women, spilling into the parking lot. I immediately started looking around, wondering who I was going to have to fight off at the Size 3 rack. Just kidding. Sort of. I was pleasantly surprised to find that when they opened the doors and we filtered through like cattle, I was the first woman at the Size 3 rack. Score. I found Emerson 6 or 7 outfits and poor little Jax only got a pair of Gap madras shorts. Like he cares. He'd much rather be naked anyway. Typical male. :)

Here's to a great weekend of doing nothing except spending quality time with my sugar daddy and our babies.

Tom & Jerry

I found it as I was flipping through the guide a few nights ago & decided to DVR it for Emerson. She is watching it right now & LOVING it. I'm telling you, the good 'ole cartoons we grew up on just can't be topped. Dora Schmora... Tom & Jerry is ridiculously good. The raw physical violence they employ against each other & the strategy applied to each situation are brilliant.

On another note, I had a wreck last night. Don't go & freak out... it was fairly minor. Thank goodness the kiddos were safely home asleep in bed. My car will probably have to have the front hood & bumper replaced (not cheap, I'm sure). Totally annoying and I am NOT happy about it.

Off to get dinner started. I'm making oatmeal & toast tonight! Don't you just love breakfast for dinner??? I'm lucky to be married to a man who looks forward to meals like this. Makes my life that much easier.

The big 31...

I was kind of in denial all last year that I had actually entered my 30s, but yesterday there was no denying it. The one factor that made this depressing milestone just a little more bearable was that it was on a Saturday. It's been a long time since I had a Saturday birthday, and I'm remembering why I like them so much! I told Jason that it ended up the PERFECT day. Why? Three reasons:

1) Family time. This is the fam at the local diner for breakfast. They serve the best bacon I've ever had in my life. No lie.

The boys aren't quite awake yet...

Momma & the big girl

2) Me time. I spent almost 4 hours shopping! My brother-in-law Travis joined me at the last store. He's awesome to shop with... relaxed, fun, but honest when I need him to be.

3) Couple time. Jason and I went to Mahogany's last night, and I almost asked them for a wheelchair to get me back out to our car. I was that full. It was amazing as usual, and I always feel like such a big girl when I get to dress up for date night. :)

Tonight we celebrated with Jason's family at his parents' house and had a wonderful time. It was a really great birthday weekend - family, food, fun - what more could a 31-yr-old ask for?

Emerson gets cake... heaven help us all... she was so hyped up on the way home, we have vowed to wait another year before she gets another bite. Just kidding. Sort of.

One more thing before I go... my friend Terra has a fun giveaway right now on her site! Enter if you'd like the chance to win free embroidery!

Car Talk

Emerson was funny in the car to and from preschool today. We were on the road for just a couple of minutes when she announced, "Mommy, you're so cute." Ha! I must admit I was a little flattered that she noticed I had done my hair and put makeup on. Then she said, "And Baby Jax is cute, Daddy's cute, Boomer's cute." Kind of took a little wind out of my sails, but so be it.

Then we were at a stoplight with some construction workers just outside her window. She looked directly at one guy and asked, "Mommy, who's that man?" I told her I didn't know his name and she said, "OH, okay... he's a good man." I asked her how she knew he was a good man. She thought for a second and said, "Is he a Uncle Travis man?" I said no. Then, "Is he a Uncle Jace man?" No. She seemed a little confused and then reassured herself by saying, "But he's a good man, Mommy." I'm sure he is, little talker, I'm sure he is.
