Jax said...
A few nights ago, Emerson and Jax were in the bathtub in our bathroom. I was sitting on my vanity stool, Jason was sitting on the floor near the shower, and we were catching up on each others' days. Out of the blue, Jax blurted out, "HEY! What are you guys dooooing in here? You need to go in the living room and talk." Obviously we were bothering him.

Tulsa State Fair '11
Oh, the fair. The sights, the sounds, the throngs of people who look like they haven't left their homes since 1987. The kids had a great time just taking it all in. We parked for free, we had free tickets, and we didn't spend a dime while we were there. I had my eye on the red velvet funnel cakes, but I exercised willpower. Next year when I'm not nursing? There will be red velvet funnel cakes in my belly.

Finished product. I'm really happy with the way it turned out!
Hayden's 8-month photo session is on Sunday, and the dress I found for her is a unique color. None of her bows or headbands were going to match, so I stopped by Hobby Lobby last week and got crafty again.

I just got back from the chiropractor's office for Hayden's re-check for her ears. The infection is gone! Praise the Lord! I'm thinking going the natural route is going to be the best option for us from now on.

Dad's Night at preschool
Emerson went nuts Tuesday night when I told her Daddy was taking her to a special daddy/daughter date at her preschool class. She begged me to let her down from dinner so she could go!
He said they had a great time, and he came home with a questionnaire Emerson's teachers had filled out with her answers.
"All About Dad"
1. I love my dad because "he does jumping jacks with me."
2. My dad works at... "fixing towns on his computer."
3. My dad is "15" years old.
4. My dad likes to eat "mac & cheese and chicken."
5. I like my daddy to "throw me on the bed and play in his closet." (This is the ritual after he gets home each night. He changes while Emerson and Jax pretend to hide in his closet, then he grabs them and throws them on the bed over and over until I call them in for dinner).
On a somber note, Hayden has yet another ear infection. There seems to be a pattern here... teething, runny nose, ear infection. This time around instead of going to Dr. B's office and looking at the possiblity of another antibiotic, I opted to go to the chiropractor. My good friends Deana and Melissa swear by the ear adjustment method, so I took H today. Sure enough, he looked in her ears and saw a nasty little infection, so he adjusted her ears. She screamed and cried, but the pain went away pretty quickly and she calmed right down. I have a natural immune booster supplement to give her as well, so we'll see how this goes. Say a little prayer for my punkin (who is, in fact, crying as we speak at 11:54 p.m.). Poor baby girl.

Miss Personality
I took the kids to the park last Friday after naptime. What gorgeous weather we had! It was in the 70s a few days last week, and while I prefer the 60s, I'll take what I can get. I had a good chat with another mom there while the kids played and I attempted to nurse and not flash the entire park while Hayden fought the hooter hider. Excuse me... nursing cover. Whatever.
Emerson was sitting on the park bench with me, eating her apple, when two boys started playing on the slides near us. She laid her apple down, walked directly over to the older one, and said, "Hi there! How old are you?" He said he was 9. This was her reply: "You're NINE YEARS OLD ALREADY?!? I can't BELIEVE it! That means you're almost ready to be TEN!" The boy quickly made an exit. Hahaha!
Then as we were about to leave, a dad walked up to me and asked if Emerson was mine. I said yes, and he said, "Wow, she has quite the personality. She walked up to me, told me her name was Emerson, and then said, 'I bet you wish you had my name, don't you?' "
That girl. She's somethin' else.

Fall is dangerously close
I looked out into the backyard this morning at breakfast and noticed one of the trees is starting to change color! Just a little smidgen of red right below the top of the swingset, but enough to bring some joy to this momma. Never mind the fact that it's going to be in the 80s all week. I see CHANGING LEAF COLOR!
I meal planned last night and thought I would post our meals for the week on here. I know for me personally, I get caught in a rut and end up making the same things over and over. I love bloggers who post their meal plans. Sometimes I get just the inspiration I need. I, however, usually don't make many exciting and elaborate recipes, so don't look at this list expecting any inspiration!
Monday: dutch oven chicken, leftover Olive Garden salad from game day, freezer rolls
Tuesday: grilled pork chops, sweet potatoes, roasted green beans
Wednesday: slow-cooker chuck roast w/ carrots, onions, and potatoes & rolls
Thursday: carryout!
Friday: chicken stir fry on brown rice
Saturday: game day food for OU/Texas, probably sandwiches for dinner
Daddy gets to go with Emerson to Dad's Night Out at preschool tomorrow. I haven't told her yet because that is all she'll talk about until it happens. I might just let him tell her at dinner tomorrow night and then whisk her away in the car!
