Date Night & the Walker (with a Video of the Week thrown in)

Baby Hane took her first steps yesterday!  My friend Robin and her kids were over for a play date, and I was telling her that Hayden was really close to walking.  She got down on her knees and put her arms out, and Hot Sauce took two little steps toward her!  I guess all Hayden needed was someone else to look at!  I can't tell you how exciting/emotional it was... the last first steps of my babies.  While it's going to be fun having her walking all over the place soon, I am gonna miss her funny little scooting crawl.  Here's a quick video from her birthday... she does this funny left leg tucked, right leg extended scoot.

J and I got away for our regular date night last night.  And by regular, I mean every other Friday night.  We're making a very concerted effort to put it on the calendar and make it happen.  We ate at Michael V's which is one of our favorite restaurants.  After eating, we realized it was a little too early to head home (the in-laws were putting the kids to bed after taking them out for Mexican).  Can anyone relate?  A really good way to spoil a date night is to get home and have to put the kids to bed yourselves!

There weren't any movies playing that we wanted to see, so we decided to do something really, really romantic.  Y'all, we walked around Target.  And I'm not even ashamed.  Can I just say that walking around SuperTarget with my husband was a freakin' blast.  I think having a conversation where we could actually complete our sentences might've had something to do with it, but I'm not sure.

I also threw him a curve ball and told him that I'm not sure I really want to go to Costa Rica.  I know, I'm so wishy-washy, but I'm just not sure I want us to spend $1700 on flights!  Part of me wants to go somewhere domestic and spent that money on an amazing hotel/spa, etc.  So hopefully we'll decide sometime soon!

Goodness, where did the week go?

I feel like our past week has been more hectic than usual, and I think it's because of the gym.  I've got a schedule of getting there five days a week, so that's a lot of in-and-out of the car.  I am SO enjoying it, and the kids love it, too.  Well, I should say two of three love it.  Hot Sauce would prefer being perched on my hip and never put down, so she's not too fond of the gym quite yet.  The body pump class that I do on Monday and Friday is kicking my tail.  It's a full hour of intense weight training, but it's so fun that the hour flies by.

Another thing consuming my time this week has been the planning of our 10-year anniversary trip.  It's crazy to think that we're hitting that milestone this summer.... it's even crazier trying to plan it.  I think we've settled on Costa Rica!  We were tempted to be frugal and go somewhere in the States, but we both agreed that we only have this anniversary once.  Home improvement projects can wait!

Vah-when-times

Last night I put the kids' valentines in their backpacks to give to their friends at preschool today.  This morning as we got out of the car, Jax suddenly yelled, "Mommy, you forgot to put my vah-when-times in my backpack!"  Then the tears started.  You guys, I had to pull the valentines out of his backpack and show them to him before he would believe me.  His soft and sensitive heart is absolutely precious.

Jason and I have a Valentine's Day tradition of getting Chinese takeout, so he'll be picking it up on his way home from the airport (he's coming back from a meeting in Las Vegas).  The kids are way excited to see Daddy, and I know he's ready to get home.  Valentine's Day has taken on a whole new importance for me now that I have little ones.  It's really fun to create the atmosphere and see the joy of celebrating through their eyes.

My favorite part of today thus far?  A text exchange this morning between Jason and me.

Me: "Will you be my valentine?"

Jason: "Can't.  Hot Sauce already bullied me into a commitment."

Me: "I am about to pee myself."

1-year comparisons

At Hayden's 1-year checkup last week, she weighed 20 lbs and was 28 1/4" long.  Her vocabulary includes Ma-ma, Da-da, Bubba, Dah (for dog and also for duck), uh-oh, saying/waving hi and bye, and trying to bark like a dog.  She's standing on her own for a few seconds and cruising around furniture, but she hasn't yet tried taking a step on her own.  I had to peek back at the other two's baby books to see their stats.

Emerson at 1 year was also 20 lbs and was 30" long.  Her vocab included Ma-Ma, Daddy, Baby, Birdie, Doggie, Ducky, and Poo-Poo.  She was our early talker for sure!

Jax at one year was a whopping 25.5 pounds and 30" long.  His vocab included Ma-Ma, Da-Da, Nana (for banana), and ball.

Oh, those rolls on Jaxeypoo.  Edible, I tell ya.

Thinking about my sweet sis today as she's recovering from mastitis.  No fun!!!  They are closing on a new house on Valentine's Day, however, so that's something fun to look forward to.  This darling house is down the street from their current one and will give them tons more room for their growing brood.

Also thinking about my sweet friend Lisa as she is driving around with her realtor in Houston, looking to make a house purchase soon.  How I wish I could magically hop on a private jet and make quick pit stops in Peoria and Houston right about now.

One last thing on my radar.... THESE.

These puppies were calling my name at Dick's last week.  Normally priced at $90, I had a coupon plus a manager gave me a surprising 25% discount when I mentioned they never have the size pants I'm looking for. I walked out of there paying $42.  Normally I can't wear Nikes because I have a wide foot, but these fit me perfectly.  Plus the hot pink makes me smile!

The reason I'm featuring these shoes is that today is the start of my new gym membership.  I am almost giddy with excitement.  I talked Jason into letting me join with the kids, and I'm ridiculously thankful that he let me add it to the budget.

These shoes represent the end of an era, if you will.  An era of producing a brood of children in a short amount of time, thereby basically letting my body go and chalking up my extra pounds to 'the baby years.'  Well, now that Hayden is 1 and is weaned (FINALLY!), those pounds are gonna hit the road.  For good.  So hello, pretty pink tennies... goodbye flab.

Date night tonight with my husband and a housecleaning day tomorrow - my idea of the perfect weekend!

Birthday Pics

Despite the cloudy skies which meant really bad lighting in our house (not great for pictures), Hayden's party was a success!  Very laid-back, just a few balloons, some snacks, a yummy cake, and close family.  Oh, and a pair of chubby thighs in some giraffe-print leg warmers.  And please try to ignore the grammatical error on the cake picture.  I decided to just let that one go... which was VERY hard for me.  Just ask my husband.

My friend Terra monogrammed her shirt (www.tickledsewpink.com), and I found the tutu and leg warmers on Craigslist.

A Birthday and Some Yuck

Oh my goodness, my baby turned one today.  One year ago today we were basically stranded at the hospital after a quick birth, snuggling down in the middle of Blizzard 2011.  Hayden Reece came in with a bang and hasn't stopped since.  Today I was trying not be sad about this milestone, but there's something about knowing it's the last first birthday that brings a lump to my throat.  We're having a little family party for her on Saturday, so I'll post pictures soon thereafter.

Baby Hane, our little Hot Sauce, happy birthday!  I love you beyond words and wouldn't trade a minute of the past year.  Even the frustrating parts.  Because you are fearfully and wonderfully made by a Creator who has given you a unique purpose, and I have a feeling it's a pretty big and powerful one.  You don't do anything halfway, after all.

Here's the birthday girl at the park yesterday.

Now on to the Yuck part of today.  I woke up feeling like someone had steamrolled me, all flu-like and exhausted.  I noticed my throat was terribly sore, too.  Of course, Daddy was going out of town tonight.  Murphy's Law!  I had our sweet babysitter, Miss G, come over while I ran to urgent care.  They tested me for flu and mono (both negative), so it's either strep or tonsillitis.  I've started my antibiotic, so I'm on my way to recovery.  I absolutely HATE being sick.  I never get sick, so when I do, it's such an interference with my routine, ya know?
